More than ever, the world is shouting for environmental care and groans underneath the devastation. That’s why ‘green’ companies should be awarded for their support. Earlier this week, Catalyst was given the award for its work on developing a carbon-neutral paper product for magazine publishing. Also the company Doubletree's Portland, hotel and meeting center was recognized for its extensive carbon reduction programs.
The awards are given to companies that are leading the way with new ideas for reducing or offsetting climate change through new methods and processes by Metafore, an environmental consulting and certification organization based in Portland, is responsible for this initiative.
Catalyst Paper Corporation, the winner in the products category, is awarded for its Catalyst Cooled paper line, a carbon-neutral paper that the company launched in June of this year in cooperation with Rolling Stone magazine. The paper is referred to as "manufactured carbon-neutral" because there are no gas emissions associated with manufacturing it.
Doubletree Hotel and Executive Meeting Center, the winner in the services category, is awarded for its sustainability program. The company has been composting 14 tons of its kitchen waste per month on average, purchases 65 percent of its food products within a 500-mile radius, and it has reduced its energy use by 32 percent. The hotel also recently received a Green Seal certification for sustainability.

Handing out these kind of awards is a very good stimulation for big multinationals to be more carring for the environment. Hopefully in a few years they will all be aware what there possibilities are to improve the green economy if they work together.
A lot of people are shouting for environmental care. The idea to stimulate green companies is wonderful. With the awards I'm sure we can improve the green economy and open the eyes of polluting businesses!
