
In a special issue dedicated to innovators taking risks for improving the planet, Time Magazine(published in New York) has named 14 entrepeneurs “ Heroes of the Environment”
Time Magazine recognizes CEO Jeffery Immelt( of the company EG). His company fought for environmental regulation and also for innovation and clean technology along several fronts. EG also is leader of the U.S. Climate Action Partnership.
Amory Lovins; the co-founder of the Rocky Mountain Institute, is chosen by Rob Walton (charman of Wal-mart) for being in the magazine because Lovins helped introducing ideas of sustainability and the benefits of ‘harvesting the low-hanging fruit’ for a company on the scale of Wal-Mart.
Virgin founder Richard Branson receives the recognition for his high-flying ambition – in addition to launching tests on a line of 747 planes that will run in part of biofuels. Branson’s company is sponsoring a 25 million competition for inventors who discover new and effective ways to remove greenhouse gases from the athmosphere.
Also Rory Stear and Kristine Pearson of ‘Freeplay Energy’ have been nominated. Free Play is a London-based company that creates simple, handcrank products—including radio’s, lights and generators—that give cheap, sustainable energy to areas that wouldn’t otherwise have it.
