Waste Management, the organisation that is in control of collecting and recycling the waste in America, wants to increase their energy production, coming from recycled waste, and also the number of waste they collect and recycle by 2020, and this together with improving its fleet’s fuel efficiency and decreasing their associated emissions. The largest landfill operator in America has announced that they will spend billions of dollars to achieve these goals.
Some objectives of what Waste Management want to achieve with the new investments, is to double the production, which for the moment already supplies the power of 1 million homes. And they want to increase the number of recyclables they can handle to 20 million ton a year, which now is 8 million ton. And for the goal of improving the fleet’s fuel efficiency alone, they will spend up to 500 million dollars per year for 10 years, and this to improve the efficiency by 15 percent. An other plan of Waste company is to increase the number of facilities they have from 24 to 100 by 2020 and the number of acres put aside for conservation and wildlife habitat to about 25000 , which now is 17000 acres. They also want to build 60 new landfill gas to energy facilities. All of these objectives, they want to achieve by 2020.
